I’m getting really tired of hearing that Trump did nothing on January 6! That obscures the fact that he was busy all day directing and implementing his previously established subversive plan to overthrow the 2020 election! Dereliction of duty is an important but secondary issue. Trump’s plan and his duty were mutually exclusive.
It all began with the plan developed by him and his supporters even before the 2020 election. The events leading to and including those of January 6 were meticulously planned by Trump and his supporters including Kevin McArthy, Roger Stone, and Rudy Giuliani
After 40 courts, many with Trump-appointed judges, rejected his legal appeals of the election results, Trump and company saw the only recourse was violence. .
The Proud Boys and the Oathkeepers were recruited to spearhead an attack on the Capitol. Once the assault had begun, Trump provided those groups with massive reinforcements by ordering armed participants at his Elipse rally to march to the capitol. Trump made concerted efforts to join them at the capitol.
Trump didn’t do nothing on January6!. According to plan, Trump was on the phone to Congress members to delay the election’s certification. He also tweeted an incendiary message deploring Pence’s lack of the “courage” to overthrow the election results, painting a target on Pence’s back.
He only asked the rioters to leave the capitol after it was apparent that the action did not work, and even in that message his support and affection for the riotous “patriots” was apparent.
The plan is still unfolding as attempts to undermine our democracy continue at the national, state, and local levels, and Trump has yet to concede his election loss. It is all part of one coherent coordinated action from the start to the present.
