The Illinois Commission on the Elimination of Poverty , co-chaired by Heartland Alliance, released the 2018 Annual Report this month. This report provides an overview of the legislative progress Illinois has made toward cutting poverty. While many important initiatives sputtered, the General Assembly did take some key steps forward. These bills lessen food insecurity, increase opportunities for people with criminal records, expand mental health services for young adults, and make it easier to keep child care assistance through employment or income fluctuations.
